Are you sick and tired of repetitive AI-generated slop in your streaming music?
A reminder that if you're using it as background and don't need to hear any particular song or album, there are many wonderful public radio stations that stream for free on the internet worldwide. I really like KMHD Portland, KEXP Seattle, and KCRW Santa Monica, but there are numerous others! None of these stations have ads and you'll hear stuff picked by actual humans.

Edit: fixed typo
Second edit: if you want to share your favorite streaming public radio stations I am super into it! I can always add more to my rotation
New blog post! I talk about how to turn any file into glitchy noise. It's a very fun and easy sound design trick that anyone with Audacity can try out:

Just arrived back to Helsinki from Hamburg. Enjoying a moment by myself while Wayne Shorter’s “Night Dreamer” from 1964 is playing on the background.
Choosing Death () #Music #Nonfiction #Deathmetal
Choosing Death is widely recognized as the definitive history of extreme music subgenres. For this revised and expanded edition, author Albert Mudrian (editor-in-chief of Decibel magazine) reveals there is life after death metal; the book now flaunts a whopping 100 additional pages in three new chapters; 50 additional interviews; a grisly 16-page color insert; and a new cover painting by...

It's that time again, when I make a playlist of some music what I liked from the previous year, and spam it at people for no good reason.
So, well, a playlist of 2024 music, on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4037rQTjxmSNhkLSlQgnMN
and on Youtube: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYKU4ujtR8Jo6p-yYzUDWAvuasxCLav2O
Was there any point in doing this? No. Will I do it again at the end of this year? Of course.

Discographies can meander. They don't have to be a linear process of becoming a more and more iconic artist. None of that, "Oh, in their sophomore album, they really developed as an artist," or, "Well, their fifth and most recent record just retreads old ground." Fuck that. Art is not about outdoing anyone, and that includes oneself.
Happy New Year fedifriends!
I'm excited to officially announce the launch of TheIndieBeat.fm, a streaming radio station showcasing indie #music from the Fediverse.
The Indie Beat Radio is made possible through a collaboration with Bandwagon.fm / @benpate
Music artists who upload their work to Bandwagon.fm have the option to make tracks available for streaming on TheIndieBeat.fm
Our goal is to use federation to make less work for artists — upload once; distribute infinitely.
